Frequent Questions

  • Can I take my pet abroad with me?

In most cases absolutely!  There are a few restrictions though, so why not give us a call and we can tell you categorically whether we can help get your pet overseas?

  • Do I need a Pet Passport?

The Pet Passport is an EU document only - it is no use for travel outside the EU, other than being a convenient single booklet containing your pet's vaccination history.  UK vets can no longer issue an EU Pet Passport.  If you are traveling, you will need a fit-to-fly certificate or Export Health Certificate subject to where exactly you plan to travel.

  • Can I use my own pet box?

Yes, provided it is compliant with the latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations.

We supply the largest range of Sky Kennels in the UK, so please call for a quote or to determine if your own travel carrier is compliant.

  • Can my pet fly on the same flight as me?

Absolutely, providing the airline you choose is licenced to carry pets and does so on that particular route.  Sometimes certain airlines can have restrictions on routes, breeds, temperatures, etc, so we may need to look at an alternate routing for your pet.  You may also wish to travel slightly ahead of your pet, so you can get settled in and be ready for their arrival.

  • Will my pet have to go in to Quarantine?

It depends where they are going.  If you are traveling to the UK, then provided the veterinary preparation is done correctly, there is no requirement for quarantine.

If you are traveling to Australia, New Zealand or a few other places, then there is quarantine on arrival.  Please give us a call and we can talk you through the requirements, time frame, facilities etc.

  • Where will my pet be on the plane?

Your pet will be in the Pet Cabin, which on most aircraft is up at the front of the aircraft, just below Business Class!  The Pet Cabin is heated and ventilated, so they'll be nice and warm whilst they fly.

  • Can I see my pet during the flight?

Unfortunately not. There is no access to the Pet Cabin for the duration of the flight - pets tend to settle much more quickly without any human distraction!

  • Will my pet be sedated?

We do not sedate pets when they fly.  Altitude works as a natural sedative, plus we spray all our sky kennels with Adaptil for dogs and Feliway for cats, so they are in a lovely comfortable relaxing environment.

Most national veterinary authorities advise against sedation for pets whilst flying.

  • How much does it cost?

As you would expect, costs vary by destination, size of pet, the level of service, etc, so it is impossible to give a standard price.

We offer the full range of services ranging from the complete door-to-door service including boarding, veterinary preparation, sky kennel, flights, etc right through to delivery to your new home, or we can just simply arrange the flights for you. Whatever we do, we believe we offer the best possible service at a very competitive price.

We also offer a price match guarantee on like for like services wherever possible, so why not contact us for a quote today?

  • Should I buy a puppy/kitten from abroad?

We always advise that you should never buy a pet of any age that you have not physically seen, unless you have an existing relationship with the breeder.

There are literally hundreds of pet scams out there, where they clone names and parts of websites from legitimate pet shippers and then offer you a puppy/kitten at a hugely reduced price or suggest that all you need to do is pay the flight costs.  As with all things, if the offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

These pet scams usually ask for payment via Western Union etc - No legitimate pet shipper would ask for that.  Please do not be fooled.  If you think you are the target of scam, please contact your local Police immediately.

  • Do I need Customs clearance?

In many locations, i.e. the UK, you have to engage a Customs agent to handle the Customs clearance for your pet on arrival.  We are registered Customs agents working with all airlines.  We also offer delivery home anywhere in the UK.

There are some places where you can clear yourself, but it is often more simple to engage a local agent to take care of it for you.  Many airports have the cargo, passenger, and Customs buildings on completely different sides of the airport, so just physically getting there means hiring a car and then running around finding the right building, desk, individual, etc, and potentially not in your own language.  We can advise on local arrangements no matter where you are going.

  • What type of payments do you accept?

We accept payment by bank transfer, or card.

We ask for a deposit at the time of booking and then the balance a minimum of 10 days before travel.
